The Midnight Movie Society will meet monthly to drink, dance to a tailor-made soundtrack (courtesy of DJ Jake Rudh) and screen a cult classic for an audience of discerning guests who appreciate fine film with a healthy dose of irony. Theme dress is encouraged and prizes will be given away to best dressed and most participatory. The Vita.mn photo studio will also be on-site for you so you can download photos of you and your friends the morning after.

Our second selection, this film is a sequel in name only to Valley of the Dolls (1967). An all-girl rock band goes to Hollywood to make it big. There they find success, but luckily for us, they sink into a cesspool of decadence. This film has a sleeping woman performing on a gun which is in her mouth. It has women posing as men. It has lesbian sex scenes. It is also written by Roger Ebert, who had become friends with Russ Meyer after writing favorable reviews of several of his films. Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is like nothing you've ever seen and most likely... like nothing you'll see again anytime soon.

The most important thing to know about the rock trio Retribution Gospel Choir is that they are likely the most physically fit band on Earth. Drummer Eric Pollard is a distance swimmer, and Ultimate Frisbee champion with state basketball credentials. Bassist Steve Garrington also dazzles on the court, but it’s his long-distance running skills that mark him a champion. Alan Sparhawk, who plays guitar and sings, has extensive experience in American football, has been scouted for coaching work and stays fit as a distance trail runner and member of the band Low. Certainly, this trio would destroy any other band in a 10k race, and then still do the gig.

The live hip-hop band Heiruspecs - one of the most successful bands to come out of St. Paul Central High School - has joined forces with the Saint Central High School Foundation to create a scholarship fund at the school. Heiruspecs will stage a benefit on behalf of this important new fund at the St. Paul Central auditorium at 7:00 pm on Thursday February 25.

Saint Paul Central High School has graduated a lot of great groups and individuals since they first opened in 1866. The arts have also been revered and celebrated at Central, a rarity in this day for an urban public high school. This commitment to arts education has helped make Central a fertile breeding ground for some of Minnesota's finest artists. Central arts programs have helped launched the careers of some of the finest names in music including Mint Condition, The Abstract Pack, Mayda Miller and many others. The live hip-hop group Heiruspecs is honored to be a part of this great tradition. In the hopes of continuing and fortifying this great tradition Heiruspecs is hosting a concert to raise funds for an annual college scholarship they are launching in partnership with the St. Paul Central Foundation. The first awards will be presented at the Scholarship awards ceremony in the Spring of 2010 at St. Paul Central.
